Society Refactoring: Preparation for The Winter of Large Chaos

Ambiguity of Value, Unknowability of Trust

Our decision-making is based on judgments of value and the certainty of trust.

Value seems to be clearly recognized, but in fact, it’s ambiguous. We don’t wish for death, but can’t quit unhealthy habits. Which do we really want? It’s hard to answer. It’s ambiguous.

Trust is unknowable. It’s not something that can be definitively ascertained no matter how deeply you probe. Even what we see with our own eyes can be an illusion or a misunderstanding. Is it a mistake or reality? There’s no way to tell. It’s unknowable.

The Role of Reason

Reason governs logic. Logic refers to the principles common across time and situations.

The role of reason is to provide a common axis for judgments of value, which tend to fluctuate depending on the time and circumstances.

Seeing through illusions and misunderstandings, to instill a steady trust, is the role of reason.

We can make decisions precisely because we have reason. Decisions without reason are not choices but speculation, nothing more than randomness.

Chaos, Where Reason Does Not Reach

If there are principles common across time and situations, in other words, logic, we can control ambiguity and unknowability with reason.

However, in places where there is no logic, i.e., in chaos, the effect of reason does not extend. Once inside chaos, both those who have reason and those who do not become equally randomized.

Therefore, to plunge into chaos is essentially to give up reason.

Realism of Order and Chaos

Small amounts of chaos can be necessary in life and in communities. We cannot always be bound by order.

However, a large chaos that could change everything is different.

If you are currently enveloped in an order built by the power of reason, there’s no need to approach a large chaos.

But if you’re being suppressed by the power of reason, you might seek a large chaos to break free. By stirring up a large chaos and shaking the order as well, opportunities will come equally to all.

This is the principle of realism of order and chaos.

Order’s Strategy in the Face of Large Chaos

When a large chaos is present, those who hold the power of order should take the following two strategies.

Strategy 1: We must tame the inner curiosity and greed that are fascinated by large chaos while being enveloped in order.

Strategy 2: We must envelop the external alienation in order, so as not to create those who desire large chaos.

The Vessel of Order

This strategy requires a vessel of order.

If the vessel is small, it cannot envelop. Even if the vessel is large but fragile, envelopment brings about the collapse of order.

Therefore, when facing a large chaos, the size and resilience of this vessel of order are tested.

Prepare for the Winter of Large Chaos

The vessel of order must be made larger and more resilient.

The heart is what supports this vessel.

But it’s not enough to merely harbor the strength and resilience of the heart within ourselves. Each of our hearts must be effectively, efficiently, and flexibly built up to a higher level.

Indeed, we must decipher the mechanism of the vessel of order and design an architecture with maximum scalability.

Insert that architecture. It’s refactoring. Without breaking the existing society, meticulously and carefully. So as not to leave anyone behind, with a far-sighted view.

Before the next winter of large chaos comes.

The Mirrors and Eggs of Chaos

In the relationship between humans and nature, the chaos that exists externally is simply there, unrelated to our intentions. It’s usually present, occasionally revealing itself to us. We prepare ourselves and then have nothing else to do but weather it through.

In human-to-human relationships, in group-to-group relationships, the external chaos is like a mirror. From the other side, we reflect as chaos. What we need to gaze at is not what’s beyond the mirror, but the mirror itself. Where did this mirror come from? Can we overcome this mirror?

In human-to-human relationships, in group-to-group relationships, the internal chaos is like an egg. After it’s laid, we don’t know how it will grow. Mutated eggs can be minor chaos or sometimes major chaos, swallowing us whole. Chaos with the face of hope, the meaning of birthing such a thing, is what’s being questioned.

Managing the Mirrors and Eggs

Once you enter the chaos, the power of rationality doesn’t reach. If you wish to manage with rationality, you must not deal with the chaos itself but with the source of chaos.

From now on, we must not take our eyes off not only the mirror of chaos but also the eggs of chaos. Right now, there is where the new big eggs of chaos are about to be laid, one after another.

While we’re distracted by the mirror, the eggs grow and multiply. On this side and beyond the mirror.

A New Realism

From now on, a new realism will be required to prevent the mirrors and eggs from breaking.

If either one breaks, everything will be swallowed by chaos.

If the power beyond the mirror looks strong, we have the fear of being swallowed by chaos unless we become even stronger on this side.

When the other party starts holding an egg, we too need an egg. In front of the mirror, we both start nurturing the eggs of chaos that will break someday.

Moreover, apart from the person visible in the mirror, someone else might be about to lay an egg somewhere. While you’re looking at the mirror, or looking at your own feet, an egg breaks somewhere unknown. Neither here nor there, somewhere.

This is the old realism. In the age of eggs, the old realism brings about the defeat of rationality. A new era requires a new realism.
